04 Oct Stoptober
Stoptober is back for its 11th year to give smokers the confidence to quit. So, whether you want to breathe a little easier or even to have a little more money in your pocket, there has never been a better time to quit.
Smoking remains the single biggest cause of preventable disease and death in England and evidence shows you are 5 times more likely to quit for good if you can stop for 28 days so why not give Stoptober a go? There’s even an app to make things easier and track your progress.
It probably comes as no surprise that smokers are at increased risk for several health problems like cancers and heart disease but did you know they are also at increased risk for developing several oral health problems, such as:
- Gum Disease
- Tooth Discolouration
- Bad Breath
- Tooth Loss
- Oral Cancer

The important message is this: It doesn’t matter how long you have smoked for, everyone benefits from giving up smoking. Study after study shows that quitting will reduce your risks of oral cancer, gum disease, and early tooth loss. Even the yellow-brown staining that smoking causes stops and can be reversed with treatments from your dentist and hygienist.
So, if you have recently stopped smoking get a dentist to check that your mouth is healthy and organise treatment to reduce staining and inflammation so your mouth can heal faster.
